Why Responsible Investment
Global emissions continue to rise, our natural world is in decline, and the divide between rich and poor is widening.
These global challenges are being driven by short-term investment decisions focused on maximising profit which fail to account for external risks and impacts. While the idea of responsible finance is growing fast, the world’s major investors are not yet driving change at the level needed.
We work to define the highest standards of responsible investment and to drive change until these standards are adopted worldwide. Together, we can harness the positive potential of our finance system.
What is responsible investment?
Responsible investment is when an investor fully accounts for the impact of their investment activity on people and the planet, taking steps to avoid or mitigate this impact as seriously as the desire to maximise returns.
With the global investment system expanding quickly, responsible investment decisions could have a huge impact. They could see trillions of dollars channeled into the sustainable industries of the future and drive change across the global economy, including improving labour standards and tackling the climate crisis in addition to addressing growing inequality and pressing public health issues.
